SOULEDAD was commissioned by the city of Boston’s Transformative Public Art Project in collaboration with Arts in Boston and Boston Housing Authority, and completed in August 2022. This mural is dedicated to the preservation of diversity and representation in the South End. Specifically, the Puerto Rican flag represents Villa Victoria and Boricuas, while the Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latino communities at Washington Manor are also recognized as part of the rich and diverse community. The Imperial dragon wrapping around the building represents the Chinese and Asian community at Washington Manor, symbolizing protection and cultural pride. Additionally, the Haitian colors on the mother’s wrap ; Sak pase n’ap boule ! The dragon’s red, black, and green stripes, inspired by "A Tribe Called Quest," nod to the 90s golden era of hip hop and give a shoutout to Boston's own ProBlak. Lastly, the flowers, cherry blossoms, and radiant child represent a brighter future and deep love and respect for all of God’s creations.
