The phrase “Luchando Por Mi Patria” translates to “fighting for my homeland”. This mural is a collaboration between Latino artists DonRimx and Marka 27, who currently reside in the United States. Both artists call the U.S. home and are heavily influenced by American cultures such as graffiti and hip-hop, but have not forgotten their roots from Puerto Rico and Mexico.
In this collaboration mural, they pay homage to their respective heritages and blend traditions while bringing legendary Luchadores to life. Hailing from Puerto Rico, Josè Huertas González a.k.a “El Invader”, and the heavy hitter Alejandro Muñoz Moreno a.k.a “Blue Demon from MX” were selected as the Luchadores because, similar to graffiti artists, they have alter egos and fight to be the best in the game. They also represent their homelands.
This mural is significant to their journey as Latino artists who have fought through struggles and overcome the challenges of being overlooked as outsiders in this country and in the art industry. Donrimx and Marka 27 continue to fight for control of the narrative and push boundaries through street murals, paintings, and art installations. They hope to inspire industry leaders and artists to keep an open heart and mind when choosing who to work with and how to continue adding diversity and equity to the art industry.
